Ravi Dhar Named George Rogers Clark Professor of Management and Marketing

New Haven, Conn., December 16, 2005

Ravi Dhar has been appointed the George Rogers Clark Professor of Management and Marketing at the Yale School of Management.

The George Rogers Clark faculty chair was previously held by Dhar’s friend and colleague, the late Professor Dick R. Wittink.

Dhar began his academic career at the Yale School of Management, joining the faculty as Assistant Professor of Marketing in 1992. He received tenure in 2000 and currently holds an affiliated appointment as Professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychology of Yale

University.

He is Director of the Yale Center for Customer Insights, a research center that studies the behavior of customers and marketplace dynamics. Along with Wittink, Dhar was instrumental in establishing the Center, which opened in 2004, and in building its roster of corporate research affiliates including CarMax, HP, IBM, PepsiCo, Procter & Gamble, Samsung, and Webster Bank.

An expert in consumer behavior, branding, marketing management, and marketing strategy, Dhar has consulted to companies in a wide range of industries including financial services, high tech, and luxury goods. His current research focuses on using psychological principles to understand and predict customer behavior in the marketplace. His work was honored in 2005 with marketing’s prestigious William O’Dell Award. He has published more than 25 articles and serves on the editorial boards of leading marketing journals including the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing, the Journal of Marketing Research, and Marketing Science.

Dhar earned his M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley, his M.B.A from the Indian Institute of Management, and his B.Tech from the Indian Institute of Technology.
